About the Course

Our 20-week Debate Course is tailored to equip students with essential skills in argumentation, persuasion, and critical thinking. We offer two sections: one for students aged 12-15, and another for students aged 15-18, each designed to meet students at their level of experience and maturity. In today’s complex world, the ability to analyze issues, articulate viewpoints, and respond thoughtfully to different perspectives is crucial. Debate is a powerful way to develop these skills, building confidence, resilience, and clarity in communication.

What is Debate, and Why is It Important?

Debate is an organized discussion in which participants explore complex topics through evidence-based arguments. It encourages students to think critically, engage with diverse perspectives, and articulate their thoughts in a structured, respectful manner. Debate helps students become well-rounded thinkers and communicators, preparing them not only for academic success but also for life beyond the classroom. Whether the topic is social, scientific, or philosophical, learning to debate instills essential skills for resolving differences, building consensus, and driving meaningful conversations.

What Makes a Great Debater?

A great debater is both persuasive and thoughtful. They know how to structure their arguments, choosing words with care, and presenting facts in compelling ways. But beyond delivery, they understand the art of listening and responding to counterarguments. Successful debaters adapt quickly, stay calm under pressure, and exhibit empathy for opposing views, which allows them to engage others effectively. These qualities go beyond competition—they foster the ability to think independently, build empathy, and communicate effectively in any situation.

What Will You Learn?

  1. Argumentation Fundamentals: Understand the structure of a compelling argument, from creating a clear stance to supporting it with credible evidence.

  2. Advanced Persuasion Techniques: Master rhetorical techniques that enhance your ability to convince others while respecting their views.

  3. Research and Analysis Skills: Develop strategies to gather, evaluate, and present information in ways that strengthen your case.

  4. Public Speaking Confidence: Overcome stage fright, learn effective projection, and refine body language for a convincing presence.

  5. Handling Counterarguments: Engage with differing perspectives thoughtfully and practice defending your stance with resilience and respect.
